Hey Apple Watch wearers! Feeling a bit bored with your current watch face? It’s time to give your wrist some personality! Changing your Apple Watch Face is easy, fun, and a great way to customize your device to match your style, mood, or activity. Let’ s dive into how you can switch it up with some cool faces to try out.
How to Change Your Apple Watch Face
Swipe and Select – Press firmly on the watch face to enter the face gallery. Swipe left or right from the edge of the scree to cycle through your existing watch faces. It’s that easy. (If you haven’t updated to the latest Watch iOS, you can swipe left or right from the edge of the screen without the hard press.) You can then Edit your current Watch Faces from there, but it’s much easier to use the Watch App as described next.

Use the Watch App on iPhone
Open the Watch App on your iPhone (1). Go to the “Face Gallery” tab at the bottom of the screen (2). Browse through the available faces, tap the one you like, customize it with different colors and complications, then tap “Add” to set it on your Apple Watch.

But wait, let’s not get ahead of ourselves!
What are complications and why would I want anything complicated?
Think of Complications as tiny pieces of info you can add to your watch face – like your steps count, weather info, or even a reminder to drink water. I personally think Complications isn’t the best name for them because they actually make it simpler to get to basic info you use regularly. Think of them as the Swiss Army knife tools of your wrist, minus the actual knife.
Depending on the Watch Face you can choose 3 to 8 complications. Or, if you really do like it simple, choose not to use any!
Let’s look at an example.

In the Watch app, the first thing I tapped was My Watch- the icon on the left at the bottom, as shown in the image on the left. This shows all of the Watch Faces that I have chosen in the past. (Alternately, I could select Face Gallery to choose from all of the available watch faces.) From here, I selected “Color” as the watch face to customize ( See middle image above.) Then I have options to choose the Color or the type of Dial. Swiping left or right shows many more colors, and the plus icon can be tapped to select even more colors. You can tap each of the dial options before deciding which one to use. The image on the right, above, shows I selected the color blue and the circle dial.
Now comes the fun part – the Complications!

For this watch face, four different complications can be used, one for each corner of the dial, shown in the image on the left. All of them are currently turned off. When I tap on the “Off” for the Top Left Complications, I am shown a long list of apps from which to choose. I know I want to see the temperature, so I scroll all the way down until I find the Weather options (middle image). Temperature isn’t shown, so I tap on More. That gives me the screen shown above on the right. Now I can select Temperature.

I can see how the Temperature complication looks (image on the left), and then I follow the same procedure for the other three complications (middle image). When I have all four selected, I scroll down to the bottom of the page and select this as my current watch face. (Image on the right).
In this example, I went with some of my go-to-options. I almost always pick the date and the timer. I mean, who doesn’t love being able to quickly tap the timer icon on your wrist to set one for cooking or whatever else? But, seriously there are so many other complications, and I have different favorites depending on the watch face. Click here for a list of all the Apple complications available for each watch face. And don’t forget, third-party apps can be complications, too. Almost every app on your phone can be customized on your Apple Watch, so you can add Spotify, or Map My Walk, Carrot Weather, App in the Air and many others. (I’ll explore these apps in a future post!)
From the main Watch screen, scroll down to see the Apps that you have installed on your Watch. Tap the arrow on the far right to select whether you want to show the app on your watch. Scroll down further to find all of the iPhone apps that are available to install on your Apple Watch.

Cool Apple Watch Faces to Try
Here are some of my favs:
Infograph This face is perfect for those who want to maximize information at a glance. You can customize it with up to 8 complications, yet they are still fairly easy to read.

The Activity face, either Analog or Digital, is a must for fitness enthusiasts. The activity rings are prominently displayed, and the complications I pair with it are Heart Rate, Workout , and Music. I can choose my fitness activity, check my target heart rate, and rock out to my favorite music easily, while watching the progress on my activity rings.

The Motions watch face is a beautiful and fun choice. It features 3 different Collections – Butterflies, Flowers and Jellyfish. Each collection has colorful animations that change with your wrist movement. For this one, I leave the middle complication off so that it doesn’t cover the dynamic images.

My favorite new one is the Palette Watch face just because I love watching the colorful gradient backgrounds transition and change. It’s visually pleasing and almost calming. I like to change the palette colors based on what I’m wearing for the day. (It’s easy to edit choices on a current watch face with a hard press on the watch face, then a tap on Edit. Dialing the Crown changes the color options.)

Conclusion
Your Apple Watch is more than just a tech gadget; it’s a statement piece that can reflect your personality and lifestyle. By changing up your watch faces, you keep things fresh and functional.
